Truffles to Turmeric

Welcome...
to my musings and your window to our evolving food culture
At the core of each culture lies an obsession with food. From elegant dinners to campfire feasts, food is at the cornerstone of each community. As food is integral to our being, the ingredients used to make it have been integral to shaping the world as we know it today.

Truffle mushrooms - in all its form and glory - are revered by food connoisseurs. But this hard-to-find ingredient was long enjoyed by peasants that found them in forests by tree roots before it became part of haute Parisian society. Today, truffle mushrooms are less rare but still a treat and foods infused with truffle flavor have made its way to grocery aisles around the world. On the other hand, turmeric has long been revered in eastern culture for its medicinal benefits and is a key ingredient in majority of the dishes - and now has found a following in the western world. The "want" of these and other ingredients have shaped our world far beyond our dinner tables.

This blog houses my musings and scribbles on our evolving food culture and shares recipes from my urban kitchen.

The name, Truffles to Turmeric, is an ode to the flavor contrast in my kitchen and also a reminder of the history that popularized these - and many other ingredients - far, far away from their roots.
